Terribleminds challenge – Fight not flight.

He was on the verge of starvation, as usual. His hands were frail, stretched like paper over bone ridges. The metal ball-bearing was smooth and polished, shiny to the point of perfection. He swiped the hidden file quickly over its surface as many times as he dared, before dropping it into the pile.

Two weeks later the rough edge of the ball-bearing caught against the side of its housing chamber, biting through the grease. In seconds, one of the rocket’s stabilisers jammed and it began to violently turn, tearing and tumbling out of the cold winter skies over occupied France.
